Via Beata
The Way of Blessing
St Peter’s Church in Irthlingborough is excited to start hosting pilgrims as they walk the ancient Via Beata, the pilgrim route starting in Lowestoft and ending in St David’s. Especially as the church is situated on the pilgrim route.
We offer accommodation in the Albert Underwood Room, our large meeting room adjacent to the church with a separate entrance. The room has access to a toilet and a fully equipped kitchen and is furnished with assorted chairs and tables. At this moment we have no bedding, so pilgrims would have to supply their own blow-up mattress and bedding.
On the outskirts of the town, along the Via Beata way there is Aldi Supermarket and opposite the church is a Coop Supermarket. The town also has a number of fast food, takeaway and eat in restaurants.
By arrangement in advance, we would be happy to host Morning/Midday/Evening Prayer or Eucharist for pilgrims as they journey on.
There is no charge for accommodation we simply ask:
- You to leave the facilities as you found them
- To be respectful of this holy place, its environs, and our neighbours
- If you can afford it, to make an appropriate donation for the upkeep and improvement of our pilgrim resources.
- To remember us and our mission in your prayers.
This is the first year of our hosting, so please bear with us, we hope to get better! Please be aware there are significant limitations on disabled access to the building. If this is an issue, please do ask for advice.
