Welcome to Sunday
What happens on Sunday? What do we get up to and why do we do it?
What will happen when you walk through the door?
Types of service
Holy Communion
This is a special service because it’s what we call a sacrament. At this service we have bread and wine to meet with Jesus and remember the last supper which is the last dinner Jesus had with his followers before his crucifixtion. At this service we have two readings the first one is from either the old or new testament, the second is a gospel reading from one of the four gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John). After this will be a talk usually based upon one of the readings. Then we have prayers before the communion starts. During the service we sing songs usually hymns.
Morning Prayer
This is a service of prayer and meditation but on sunday we have a talk as well. At the service we have two readings one from either the old or new testament, the second reading from a gospel. We might also have a psalm which is a hymn or poem from the old testament. We will have a talk based on one of the readings. We then have a time of prayer afterwards before we end the service. On Sundays we like to have songs during this service aswell usually hymns.
What about kids?
Kids and families are always welcome in our churches. St Peter’s Irthlingborough has the best provision for children so you might consider going to that church if you have a young family.
During term time at St Peter’s we have Junior Church, here are child focussed activities and these will be linked to the theme of the service. Junior Church is available to any primary school aged child.
For toddlers and pre-school we have a creche area in the church. This area has toys and games, there are also comfy chairs for parents. Parents can still see whats going on and take part in the service, that is if they have time.
Also available are pew bags you can grab one of these on arrival in church. Inside are craft activites and games to keep young ones entertained during the service.
All you need to bring is yourself!
What will happen when I arrive?
When you come to one of our churches you will be greeted by someone at the door. Depending on the church they will give you either a service booklet and hymn or just a hymn book with a weekly sheet. Then you have to decide where to sit! There are no set seats in our churches you can sit where you like. If you want to sit in the back corner then that’s fine, if you want to sit right in the front that’s fine aswell. All our services end with tea and coffee on offer and usually biscuits as well.
Do you have microphones?
Yes all our churches have sound systems and hearing loops so we try our best to use microphones.
Do you use projection screens?
Yes at St Peter’s Irthlingborough the entire service is projected. At Little Addington, Great Addington and Woodford we tend to use service booklets.
